Cool Cape Transmogs That Are Easy to Get Wow
For better or worse, the hunter class has always been one of the most popular classes in World of WarCraft. It's difficult to travel through the world without seeing a dozen Night Elf Hunters or Troll Hunters. Being so popular, they have also received a lot of love over the years in their armor designs.
From vanilla days to the present, there are dozens of great options to choose from, perfect for any hunter. Whether players wish to look like an elite dragon tamer or something a bit more traditional, Blizzard doesn't skimp out on options.
Updated February 28, 2021 by Christopher Fain: The newest expansion, Shadowlands, is in full swing, introducing several new hunter transmog options. Mail pieces from Castle Nathria are the biggest update, and now that more guilds are progressing through Mythic difficulty, more interesting armor pieces are becoming available.
Players are also steadily progressing through their Covenant campaign, unlocking new and interesting sets. It all adds up to even more options for the armor-collecting transmog gods of World of Warcraft.
12 The Runewarden Set
Out of all the hunter transmog options from Covenants, the Night Fae are the only ones that still appeal to the original hunter fantasy. The Runewarden set pieces come as rewards for completing different chapters of the Night Fae Covenant campaign. It evokes the look of the local faun creatures with its large, glowing horns. Almost every piece is wrapped in tangled vines and wood, seemingly inspired by Tolkien-like Elf designs. This hunter transmog includes:
- Runewarden's Guise (rewarded from the quest, "Parting Ways")
- Runewarden's Spaulders (rewarded from the quest, "Unbroken Bonds")
- Runewarden's Greatcloak (rewarded from the quest, "One Little Whisper")
- Runewarden's Hauberk/Vestment (rewarded from the quest, "Their New Home")
- Runewarden's Armguards (rewarded from the quest, "Report to Lorde Herne")

The Mythic recolor of Heartstalker's Longbow from vendors in Castle Nathria matches near perfectly with the Runewarden set. It's purchased for the cost of one Abominable Anima Spherule, which drops from bosses in the same raid.
11 Custom: Vestments Of The Wild Fae
Taking some of the new pieces from Shadowlands for inspiration comes an amalgam of druid, shaman, and hunter fantasy in the Vestments of the Wild Fae. It's a combination of both old and newer 3D pieces that would make any hunter fit well into the biomes of the afterlife. This WoW hunter transmog includes pieces such as:
- Mythic Soulthorn Visage (drops from Ingra Maloch, Mists of Tirna Scithe)
- Pauldrons of Nalorakk (drops from Nalorakk, Zul'Aman)
- Vestments of Steaming Ichor (drops from Garalon, Heart of Fear)
- Raid Finder Grips of Forsaken Sanity (drops from Uu'nat, Crucible of Storms)
- Raid Finder Goldenscale Girdle (drops from Opulence, Battle of Dazar'alor)
This majestic set pairs well with the Faesworn Warbow (for more than just the name). Unfortunately, this bow appears to have not survived the beta stage of Shadowlands, but it does share a model with the Duskwarder Shortbow, looted from a Large Lunarlight Pod in Ardenweald, whose color scheme still matches well.
10 Wyrmstalker Battlegear
Soar into battle with the skull of a dragon, striking fear into foes by a simple glance. The Wyrmstalker Battlegear does just that with its glowing dragon eyes and skeletal wings that wrap around the shoulders. Many of the pieces of the Wyrmstalker set drop from Baradin Hold while others are simply bought from Valor quartermasters in Stormwind and Orgrimmar:

The set matches with Boneshard Boots from the quartermasters and Treads of Dormant Dreams from Dragon Soul. The boots pictured are the Warsong Poachers Greaves/Windrunner's Pursuit from Trial of the Crusader. These color schemes match well with the Cataclysmic Gladiator's Longbow from Cataclysm tier PvP vendors in Stormwind and Orgrimmar.
9 Battlegear Of The Savage Hunt
One of the best sets for dwarves, in particular, is the Battlegear of the Savage Hunt. It's an updated version of what dwarven guards and rangers wear throughout Dun Morogh, Loch Modan, and the rest of their lands. Any hunter can loot the full Savage Hunt set from various bosses in Hellfire Citadel:
- Hood of the Savage Hunt (drops from Kormrok, Hellfire Citadel)
- Pauldrons of the Savage Hunt (drops from Xhul'horac, Hellfire Citadel)
- Hauberk of the Savage Hunt (drops from Mannoroth, Hellfire Citadel)
- Gloves of the Savage Hunt (drops from Soulbound Construct, Hellfire Citadel)
- Leggings of the Savage Hunt (drops from Gorefiend, Hellfire Citadel)
The best pieces to pair with it include the Girdle of the Legion General, which adds a belt with 3D bags, Die-Cast Ringmail Sabatons, and the Shrediron's shredder, the perfect musket for a dwarf. Protect the ancient mountains of the clans in style and become the epitome of a proper WarCraft marksman.
8 Demon Stalker Armor
Back in The Burning Crusade, the Demon Stalker armor was the epitome of hunter fashion. While many armor textures of the time now look rather dated, this set continues to hold its menacing charm. The helm, chest, and shoulder pieces burst with glowing fel, like a demonic monster waiting to be unleashed:

Buy the full Demon Stalker set from either the Aldor or Scryer Keeper of Sha'tari Artifacts vendor for the price of armor tokens from Gruul's Lair, Magtheridon's Lair, and Karazhan. It pairs best with the Fiend Slayer's Boots which drop from the Echo of Medivh from Karazhan. For a weapon with a similar fel aura, try the Bristleblitz Striker from the Mt. Hyjal raid.
7 Lightning-Charged Battlegear (Normal Recolor)
Those looking for something a little out of the ordinary for their hunter might enjoy the Lightning-Charged Battlgear. This set has a swampy vibe with green orbs and a murloc skull. The edges of almost every piece are adorned with rope, further pushing the nautical theme. The full set is now obtainable through Legacy Justice Quartermasters in both Orgrimmar and Stormwind for a small gold fee.
This is a full tier set featuring everything but foot armor. However, there are three options for matching boots including the Boots of Vertigo which drop from Atramedes in Blackwing Descent. One of the challenges of this set comes in finding a matching bow. While nothing suits it perfectly, the Bow of the Great Hunter matches in color scheme. It comes from a Horde-specific hunter class quest called "A Marksman's Weapon."
6 Yaungol Slayer Battlegear
Mists of Pandaria introduced many fan-favorite armor sets distinctly native to the lost continent of the Pandaren. One of those sets includes the Yaungol Slayer Battlegear, inspired by the native Tauren-like tribe of the Yaungol. Some pieces of the set drop from the Sha of Anger in Kun-Lai Summit while others are purchasable from the Valor Quartermaster in Townlong Steppes:
- Yaungol Slayer's Headguard (purchased from Commander Oxheart in Townlong Steppes for one Helm of the Shadowy Protector Token)
- Yaungol Slayer's Spaulders (purchased from Commander Oxheart in Townlong Steppes for one Shoulders of the Shadowy Protector Token)

Matching boots come in the form of the Monstrous Stompers which drop from Amber-Shaper Un'sok in Heart of Fear. It's difficult to find a bow that matches the dark color scheme, but the Wall-Watcher's Longbow comes close. It drops from various elites that attack the player garrison in Warlords of Draenor.
5 Custom: The Lost Ranger
This custom set embodies some of the traditional aspects of being a ranger and offers a more conservative aesthetic compared to many other sets in World of WarCraft. The Streamslither Helm acts as a pulled-back ranger's hood and drops from various dungeon bosses in Warlords of Draenor. It goes with the matching chest piece, Streamslither Chestguard, which also drops in dungeons. The Axeclaw Gauntlets come from a variety of sources, including the Baleful Gauntlet tokens from Tanaan Jungle. The Withering Waistrap, which drops in Hellfire Citadel, is one of the most perfect additions to any hunter transmog as it comes with several 3D features including a belt buckle, a bag, and a dagger. The Leggings of Flowing Feathers drops from Rukhmar in Spires of Arak. The Sabatons of Radiating Ire drop from several enemies in Tanaan Jungle. Finally, while it's less conservative, the Horde version of Dread Aspirant's Longbow from Battle for Azeroth supply chests matches it well.
4 Eagletalon Battlegear (Mythic Recolor)
One of the shining standouts of the Legion armor sets is the Eagletalon Battlegear. It includes several 3D features such as the metallic claws on the fingers of the gauntlets. The Mythic design is one of the best as it matches closely to what Sylvannas Windrunner wears, even offering a red glow on the eyes. The set pieces drop from Mythic Nighthold, while some look-a-like versions drop from bosses within The Emerald Nightmare. The matching Emblazoned Duskwatch belt drops from Aluriel in Nigthold and the Malignant Sabatons drop from Ysondre in Emerald Nightmare.
This beautiful set matches best with the similarly-colored skin of Thas'dorah, Legacy of the Windrunners. Whether the goal is looking like a Dark Ranger or a hunter simply wants to stand out from the crowd, the Eagletalon Battlegear is here to please.
3 Darkshore Warfront Mail (Alliance & Horde)
The Darkshore Warfront in Battle for Azeroth, despite its problems, introduces several fantastic transmog options. The Alliance sets are themed with Night Elves in mind, with purple colors and feathers. The Horde set was made with Sylvannas and the Forsaken in mind with spikes, skulls, and traditional chainmail. All pieces are collectible through World Quests and drops within the updated version of Darkshore. However, the higher tier set from both factions is no longer available.
Even if the higher tier is more coveted, the lower sets still hold significant design value. Until Blizzard introduces Night Elf heritage armor, there may be no better in-game option than this set. The same goes for the Horde set which looks great on Forsaken hunters.
2 Ensemble: Renowned Explorer's Attire
The Recruit-A-Friend service has always offered interesting rewards from pets to two-seater mounts. The newest generation introduces a transmog ensemble known as the Renowned Explorer's Attire earned if the friend subscribes for at least 12 months. Being so difficult to obtain, it offers substantial bragging rights.
Evoking Indiana Jones in its design, it includes 3D elements on almost every piece of armor, including a belt that straps around the torso and a backpack as a cape. The set looks great on a seasoned marksman from either faction and arguably looks better than most of the current armor offerings.
1 Wildstalker Armor
In the Burning Crusade, the Gronnstalker armor was one of the best armor sets seen in-game with its giant, moving eyes for shoulder pads. When the time came to revisit older sets in Legion, Blizzard chose to revamp this old set for hunters, renaming it the Wildstalker Armor. Its primary features still remain the same, however, every part of the armor includes an impressive 3D piece.
The full set drops from bosses within Tomb of Sargeras. The matching belt called the Belt of Screaming Slag drops from Goroth and the Star-Stalker Treads drop from Kil'jaeden. The skeletal pieces match well with the Pterrorwing Longbow from Pa'ku's Aspect in the Battle for Dazar'Alor raid.
